Scouting Summary:
Kevin "KC" Concepcion is an extremely talented receiver coming out of Texas A&M this draft cycle. KC is a well-rounded receiver who primarily lines up in the slot. He occasionally lines up on the outside and maintains a high level of production in both roles. KC utilizes his routes and release in witty ways to create separation consistently. Following the catch, he is extremely slippery and can turn 5-yard checkdowns into explosive gains. KC clearly has a high football IQ, which stands out on film. He uses it to give his team the advantage, whether he has the ball or not. Despite not having spoken with him 1-on-1, it is clear from his press conferences and on-field actions that he carries himself well as a person and teammate. Whether he’s rushing down the field to help up a teammate, fighting through a speech impediment in press conferences, or emphasizing his willingness to do anything to win, KC is a player and person any team would want.
There are, however, a few areas of improvement for KC, including run-blocking and drop issues. KC is a lean receiver with decent run-blocking technique. However, his size leads to inconsistent results. He could address this by bulking up slightly or improving his technique for more consistent blocking. His dropping issues can be marked up to two things. First, his QB play wasn’t amazing, which led to many extremely hard-to-reach balls leading to drops. Second, KC’s skill as a YAC receiver works against him when he tries to go from receiver to runner instantly, causing occasional concentration drops. Both issues could be resolved through coaching and a different team environment.
I imagine his NFL role as a better Jayden Reed. A craftier route-runner who can play the slot and outside as needed. For his fit in the NFL, if he has a big-bodied WR2 to play the outside, he will excel as a WR1. If your WR1 is already “that guy,” he would slot in as a WR2 and be even better. Regardless of where he ends up in April, he will find immense success. My dream fit for him is in Pittsburgh, lining up in the slot with Metcalf on the outside.
